Anchor Monthly News!!! Benefit For Jimmy Jimmy Cooper is many things. He is a poet, a musician, an inventor, and an inspiration just to name a few. The 27 year old artist also suffers from Muscular Dystrophy. Despite being wheelchair bound and on a ventilator since the age of 21, Jimmy has not slowed down for a second. Due to financial strain, however, the Cooper Family's home had fallen into disrepair. In order to provide better care for Jimmy, extensive repairs needed to be made. Anchor's Supervisor of Extended Care, Darlene Gearhart, wanted to do something more for the Coopers. While working to provide care for Jimmy, she spoke to him about several ideas she had to help the family. Since he loves music so much, she decided try to arrange a benefit concert for Jimmy and his family. Darlene arranged for a reporter from the NWI Times to meet with the Coopers. The meeting resulted in a story that was pulished on July 7th in the community section of the Times. The resulting response from the local community was extremely positive. Many people called and emailed to give their support. With that first step taken, Darlene and the Coopers began to enlist volunteers to help in any way they could. Some wanted to help make the much needed repairs to the Cooper home. Others offered to invest their time in taking part in the benefit concert. On the evening of October 1st, Jimmy Cooper and several other artists will take the stage at Cronies in Kouts. The proceeds will go to benefit the Cooper Family to that Jimmy will be able to receive the home improvements he needs. With this latest accomplishment, Jimmy Cooper continues to prove that life does not end with disability. With the will to reach for your dreams and a little from the local community anything is possible. |
